The Power of Patience

Health & Wellness

By Tiffany H. Taft, Ph.D.

Patience is one of those virtues that not many people may have a real appreciation for or know how to fully balance. Take a moment and take a deep breath. Patience is a quiet virtue and one that is essential to everyday life and the key to a happy life. So, what does it mean to have patience? Patience allows us to wait calmly in the midst of frustration or adversity and yet no matter where we may find ourselves, there is an opportunity to practice it. It is the power to accept or tolerate a delay without getting angry.  Here are a few tips to keep us grounded, focused, and focused with patience.

 1.     Patience is an exercise of self-control – It’s not easy but does require the capacity to tolerate or accept delay.

 2.     Patience is important in life – It allows us to get our thoughts in order and our feelings under control.

 3.     Patience is a factor in success – It takes time to for good things to form.

 4.     Patience helps one to focus on long term goals and to make more rationale choices

 5.     Patience makes you a people magnet. People like to deal with people that are not quick to anger and are patient with their mistakes.

This is a gift. A moment to pause before you speak or react. A moment to guard your energy. As the minister Joyce Meyers has be quoted, “Patience is not about the ability to wait, but how you act while you are waiting”. It is often worth the wait!
