Almost every parent is adapting to some form of virtual learning. Some parents have opted to keep their kids at home, while others are taking part in a hybrid schedule. Studies suggest ineffective remote learning has led to students, from preschool to K-12, losing learning opportunities. The CDC released some recommendations to make sure your family is prepared for at-home learning. The tips include finding safe ways for your child to engage with their peers, creating a schedule and sticking to it, finding a space free of distractions and asking your school about plans to support school connectedness.
Colleges are also looking to deliver compelling learning experiences for students. “Many students do not like to take online classes because they want and need the face-to-face interaction. As faculty we have to be mindful of this while presenting creative and engaging curriculum that adds to their college experience,” said Karen Russell, an Assistant Professor at Tennessee State University. Experts say the key to virtual learning is making sure students know that it’s a priority and not a vacation.
